February 28 to March 2, 2008
Holiday Inn, Holyoke, MA

Nearly 30 percent of soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan suffer from Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), as do countless American veterans from previous wars. As many who have sought help could testify, standard therapeutic techniques often do not work. Tragically, veterans suffering from PTSD often cannot hold jobs or sustain relationships. Others have recurrent nightmares or won’t leave home, fearing they may attack the “enemy” seen in the faces of the people they meet. Many more feel permanently alienated from the very culture they fought to protect.

Redefining PTSD as a soul wound, clinical psychotherapist Dr. Edward Tick offers hope by nurturing a positive, mature warrior identity for our veterans. He has been speaking nationally and internationally about the psycho/spiritual needs of veterans since the release of his acclaimed book, War and the Soul: Healing our Nation’s Veterans from Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (Quest Books, 2005). This intensive healing and training retreat will provide experience in the groundbreaking techniques he has developed for over two decades and introduces in his book. He draws on methods from ancient Greek, Native American, Vietnamese, and other traditions to restore the soul so that veterans can, at last, find inner peace and truly return home to themselves, their families, and their communities.

The retreat is open to veterans of any war and their families, professionals and any interested community members. Participants will find Dr. Tick’s work invaluable for veterans of any war as well as for all who love and would help them.

The retreat is co-sponsored by Quest Books and Soldier’s Heart, an organization Dr. Tick and Kate Dehlstedt recently founded in Troy, New York for veterans’ healing. It will be held February 28 to March 2, 2008 at the Holiday Inn, 245 Whiting Farms Rd. Holyoke, MA, phone: 413-534-3311. Sign-in will begin at 3:00 p.m. We will get to know one another at 6:00 p.m. with dinner. Dr. Tick will begin the retreat that evening at 7:30 p.m. and conclude Sunday, March 2, with lunch.

The Early Bird Registration Fee is $433.00, which includes meals (Thursday dinner through Sunday lunch) and breaks. You must make your own hotel reservations. Early Bird Reservations must be made by January 21, 2008. After the 21st, the Standard Registration Fee is $518.00.We have an excellent arrangement with the hotel for rooms: $82.00 + tax per night. The Theosophical Society in America
Welcomes You

The Theosophical Society in America and Quest Books are very happy to host this retreat. When our publishing staff first talked to Dr. Tick about writing War and the Soul, we did so from the heartfelt recognition that the ravages caused by PTSD must have a truer response than has been given to date. As you can see from the Society’s Vision and Mission Statement, this retreat comes from our commitment to the universal brotherhood of all peoples and from our belief that we have a mutual responsibility to help one another heal. It is our hope that as you experience this weekend you will rediscover your truest being, and if your call is to help, that you will take home the skills that will enable you to lead others in their incredible journey home.
