Camp Indralaya was founded in 1927 by members of the Theosophical Society as a practical experiment in applying Theosophical principles. These principles continue to form the basis of our philosophy, community life, and programs. In this unique environment, individuals and families can live in cooperative harmony with nature and experience the interconnectedness of all forms of life while exploring paths to wholeness.

Located on Orcas Island in the San Juan Islands of Washington State, Camp Indralaya is a sanctuary of natural beauty and peace. The camp encompasses seventy-eight acres of forest, meadows, and trails, situated along three quarters of a mile of coastal shoreline. We share this space with rabbits, deer, owls, mink, squirrels, sea otter, bald eagles, and other wildlife.

The name Indralaya is derived from Sanskrit and means "a home for the spiritual forces in nature". In this unique environment, individuals and families are encouraged to live in cooperative harmony with nature and each other, experiencing the interconnectedness of all forms of life while exploring individual pathways to wholeness.

The camp has a maximum occupancy of ninety-five people. Visitors are accommodated in simple rustic sleeping cabins warmed with woodburning stoves. Most cabins share a nearby bathhouse, while a few have self-contained plumbing.

Delicious vegetarian meals are served in a communal dining hall. All participants are asked to join in the after-meal cleanup as a means of encouraging community and reducing cost.

As a theosophical camp, Indralaya welcomes the full participation of people of all races and religions. Membership in the Theosophical Society is not a requirement for participation in the camp and its activities.

Indralaya offers a wide variety of programs. There is also daily meditation, trail walks, a small bookshop, and a surprisingly well-stocked metaphysical library.

MAKING RESERVATIONS Advance registration is very important to our program preparation process. In the summer months, we require a minimum of ten registrants two weeks in advance of the program date. In the spring and fall, ten registrants are required at least one week in advance.

PROGRAMS Fees are charged for most workshops in addition to basic room-and-board fees. All visitors 18 and over will be charged the full program fee for the period of their stay whether attending all, part, or none of the scheduled program.

THEOSOPHICAL SOCIETY MEMBERS receive a 5% discount on all fees. This discount applies only to TS members, and is not available to friends or other family members.

DAILY STAFF OPTIONS Visitors attending camp who would like to more fully participate in the community and reduce the cost of participation in a program are encouraged to join us as "daily staff." These positions provide a $25 discount for each day on staff and involve 3 to 3 1/2 hours work per day, plus a regular after-meal cleanup assignment.

FELLOWSHIP STAFF If you would like to pursue a deeper and more intensive commitment to Indralaya, consider applying for a fellowship position. These positions require a minimum commitment of two consecutive weeks. Fellowship staff may be assigned to a wide array of duties, which might include cooking, gardening, maintenance, cleaning, transportation, or office work. We are looking for people who are interested in working in a community dedicated to a theosophical way of life. Fellowship staff work approximately 5 1/2 to 6 hours a day with one full day off each week. In return, Camp Indralaya provides food, housing, and everlasting gratitude in addition to waiving all program expenses. The cooperative spirit and talents of the fellowship staff are essential in making the ideals of Indralaya a reality. If you are interested, please call to request an application form. Individuals must be age 18 or older to be eligible for a fellowship position.
