Early morning departure from Gyantse for Shigatse, to catch the full moon Saga Dawa event in Tashi Lhunpo. This is the monastery built by the First Dalai Lama in 1447 and associated with HPB’s personal teachers. Here we meditated in the Tantric chapel created by the 10th Panchen Lama.
After the morning visit to the monastery we checked into the Manasroaver Yak Hotel and went to the nearby Songtsen Gampo Restaurant for lunch.
In the afternoon we visited the Free Market, so called because in the Communist days it was the only open market allowed in the city. The ladies in this market bring a new dimension to the meaning of the words “aggressive marketing,” and one of our group members clocked one of them for exceeding the boundaries of fair play in the bartering process
