Tim Boyd Nominated for International President

Tim Boyd, president of the Theosophical Society in America, has been nominated to run for president of the international TS, headquartered in Adyar, Chennai, India. The position had been vacated by the death of the previous president, Radha Burnier, on October 31.

The nomination was made after the annual meeting of the TS’s international General Council at Adyar in late December. Tim was nominated by fifteen members of the TS’s general council including the general secretaries (presidents) of East and Central Africa, Australia, Brazil, Cuba, England, Finland, France, India, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, the Philippines, and the U.S.

Also nominated was C.V.K. Maithreya, who was nominated by fourteen members of the general council including the general secretaries from East and Central Africa, South Africa, West Africa, Argentina, Cuba, England, Finland, Germany, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Spain, and Sweden. Maithreya, a fifth-generation Theosophist, is fifty-five and has been a member of the TS since 1968. He has served on the TS’s Indian Section council, and he is on the national board of the Theosophical Order of Service in India. He is the author of Theosophy, The Theosophical Society and the Founders, and The Vision of Sanjaya, an esoteric interpretation of the Mahabharata.

Boyd has been a member of the TS since 1974. He has served as president and on the board of directors of the TOS, the Theosophical Book Gift Institute, and the TSA. Editor in chief of Quest magazine, he has lectured and conducted workshops in the U.S., Central and South America, Europe, Asia, and New Zealand, and his articles have been published in Theosophical journals around the world.

Concurrently, Boyd will continue to run for reelection as president of the American Section, for which he is the only nominee.

Both the national and international elections will take place this spring. Final results of the international election will be announced by the end of April. Final results of the national election will be released in May. Ballots will be sent only to members who are eligible to vote. For the international election, ballots will be sent to members who have maintained continuous membership since November 1, 2011. For the national election, ballots will be sent to members who have maintained continuous membership since May 31, 2012.
