Can Artificial Intelligence be imbued with the timeless truths and high moral values enshrined in Theosophy? Along with other emerging technologies, can it help elevate human consciousness?
Pioneering Oxford University neuroscientist Dr. Ruben Laukkonen believes they can indeed be fused harmoniously. Esoteric author and filmmaker Tim Wyatt is less convinced that such a happy marriage between cutting-edge science and spirituality can take place.
Catch up with their fascinating discussion on this topic, along with their intriguing thoughts on the nature of consciousness and the importance of meditation in accessing a clearer appreciation of the underlying reality beyond the conceptual layers of the mind.
Dr. Ruben Laukkonen is a neuroscientist at the University of Oxford. He is Director of the Flourishing Intelligence Program (FLIP) and Co-Director of the Centre for Eudaimonia and Human Flourishing. Ruben is also a Fellow at Linacre College and a Senior Researcher within Oxford’s Department of Psychiatry. He has made significant theoretical and empirical contributions to the cognitive neuroscience of consciousness, meditation, and insight. His work also reveals a pathway toward more efficient and safer artificial intelligence based on brain dynamics, consciousness, and contemplative wisdom. His work has been featured widely, including in The New York Times, TIME, Scientific American, TEDx, Vice, ABC, Aeon, Vox, New Scientist, and the Nature collection. His research is supported by major grants from the Medical Research Future Fund, The Peregrine Foundation, The Conscious Foundation, and philanthropic donations from the Cillo family.
