Franz Hartmann — medical doctor, astrologer, geomancer, and mystic — was a contemporary of H.P. Blavatsky and one of the central figures in the Theosophical Society in Germany. His particular insight was that enlightenment does not come from obeying external commands, but rather from recognizing and developing the divine presence within each individual. Over four weeks, we will examine these timeless concepts through the eyes of this pioneer of the Theosophical movement and explore how to bring forth these concepts in our modern age.
Registration includes on-demand access to recordings of all the classes, which can be viewed for two weeks following the date of the final class. Late registrants will receive recording links to all missed sessions for on-demand viewing.
Week 1: We will look at the importance of exploring and awakening our inner life rather than squandering our energies on the fleeting external world.
Week 2: This week will focus on the necessity for the individual to merge with divinity, recognize the oneness in all things, and understand that duality is in the realm of human thought and not divine reality.
Week 3: We will focus on Hartmann’s teachings on how to gain true knowledge through direct experience, and study exercises to hone and enhance such direct experiences such as meditation and the creative arts.
Week 4: This final session will focus on the importance of grasping the essence of symbols. We will consider the notion that the key to understanding is not simply to focus on our thoughts intellectually, but also to bring our senses and feelings into the quest.
