White Lotus Day
Tuesday, May 8
.
White Lotus Day is the anniversary of H. P. Blavatsky's death in 1891. To commemorate her life, we will have a short celebration of readings and meditation, and you are invited to attend.

The celebration will be held in the Olcott Library (1926 N. Main Street in Wheaton, IL) at 11:30 a.m. There will be 3 brief readings, a brief discussion about her legacy, and a meditation. All are welcome.

In her last will and testament, Mme. Blavatsky made clear her desire that yearly, on the anniversary of her death, friends should assemble at the Headquarters of the Theosophical Society and read a chapter of Edwin Arnold's Light of Asia and the Bhagavad Gita. Today, many Theosophical groups around the world meet to celebrate the life and work of Mme. Blavatsky each White Lotus Day.

The Four Noble Truths are universal truths that point to the underlying nature of all existence, and in particular the human condition. However, it is possible for us to realize liberation by practicing the middle way described in these Truths.

Magic and the Occult

Magic can be defined as causing effects in the physical world through supernatural means. It is universally practiced. Today, our ideas of magic and the occult have been filtered through Hollywood films and horror fiction. But what's the truth behind these mysterious phenomena? Is there anything more to magic than sleight of hand? Richard Smoley draws on his books to give a clear, levelheaded introduction to this baffling subject.
