Soul of Light: Works of Illumination

joma_banner

Joma_Sipe

The Theosophical Society in America and its imprint Quest Books are excited to announce the launch of "Soul of Light: Works of Illumination," a new art exhibit in the Olcott Gallery located inside the Theosophical Society in America’s national headquarters in Wheaton, Ill. The exhibit will feature 12 stunning works of visionary art by Portuguese artist Joma Sipe. Beautiful and inspiring, each piece in the collection is intended as a tool for meditation and is drawn from the wisdom of the world’s great mystical traditions.

Sipe considers his artwork as sacred geometry that unites this temporal world with higher planes. He begins each painting by drawing lines across a blank canvas with a silver or gold ink pen until it is filled. He then energizes certain points with crystals, a process that infuses the work with spiritual intensity. Finally, he adds light and soft-color computer effects to achieve an ethereal quality. The resulting artwork is as inspiring as it is beautiful.

The exhibit will kick off with an artist reception on Friday, January 25th from 6 – 8 p.m. Artist Joma Sipe will discuss his artwork and inspiration via Skype from Portugal, and will also participate in a Q&A with the audience. Light refreshments will be served, and guests can enjoy live music from the melodic rock band Into the Real. Additionally, there will be a business card raffle awarding a winner one of the 12 pieces of art on display.

Jome_Sipe_BookThe reception will also feature the launch of the accompanying book “Soul of Light: Works of Illumination,” which presents over 100 of Joma Sipe’s original works of art in nine collections with such themes as sacred cathedrals, the Tree of Life, the chakras, the zodiac, mandalas and A Course in Miracles.

This event is free and open to the public. All the artwork featured in the exhibit will be available for sale, as will copies of the book. Each book purchased at the event will include a special bookmark designed and signed by the author.

Dave GunningIn this four-week class, we will look at natal charts and apply the various rules of interpretation learned in beginning astrology classes. Each week we will examine and interpret at least one or two charts. These horoscopes will be a combination of famous people in the news, famous people who have passed on, charts the students want to look at (family members, friends, or just about anyone), and even a mystery chart or two.

If you feel you are ready to interpret the birth chart then this class is for you! Instructor Dave Gunning will provide the charts. All you have to do is take any notes you wish, put on your right-brained thinking caps and jump right in! This highly interactive class will provide a lot of very good practice and will be lots of fun!

Contact Dave Gunning at astrogunning@sbcglobal.net to provide any names and birth information for people's charts you want to look at in class or any other information you wish to obtain.

Mondays, 7:00 – 9:00 p.m., March 2 – March 23 (4 sessions)

Dave GunningMany students of astrology understand the meaning of the symbols for signs, houses, planets and aspects, but when they see them all together in relationship to one another in a birth chart, they have a difficult time interpreting what it all means. This class will help with chart interpretation for those who are already familiar with the basic elements of astrology.

In this four-week class, we will look at some keys of interpretation and rules to follow when combining planetary energies. By the end of the class, we will even be able to see how planets in transit and progression affect the natal chart.

A notebook and pen is all that is needed. There will be handouts each week, along with recommendations for further reading. Astrology: A Cosmic Science by Isabel Hickey is recommended but not required.

Students should always have a copy of their chart to study during class. If you need a copy of your chart, Dave Gunning will be more than happy to print one out for you. All that is needed is your birth date, birth time (on the birth certificate) and birth place (just the city). If you need your chart, contact Dave Gunning at astrogunning@sbcglobal.net before the first day of class.
