lamed vav and the power of mystical kindnessKabbalistic tradition tells of the lamed vav: the unknown “thirty-six” righteous individuals for whose sake the world is preserved. In this profound and wide-ranging exchange with Richard Smoley, Edward Hoffman discusses how this powerful concept may be applied in our time.

He delves into the dimensions of the Jewish mystical tradition known as Hasidism, as well as how its wisdom may be applied to everyday life. Through spiritual contemplation, he explores how we may discover our tikkun—our own unique role in the world.

Dr. Hoffman also discusses the legend of the prophet Elijah, who is said to appear to individuals to provide spiritual insight at crucial times.
