Modern physics radically revised our earlier understanding of the physical world. Today's view indicates that at deep levels of physicality, most ideas about the nature of reality that we gain from everyday experience are revealed to be illusions. Relativity and quantum mechanics both tell us that the passage of time and of the feeling of separateness pertain only to the special case of physical objects at the human scale. Outside that special case, things become very strange.
Dr. Dean Radin, chief scientist at the Institute of Noetic Sciences, will review the latest scientific research suggesting that consciousness plays a special role in the behavior of the physical world. Topics include:
- Use of optical interferometers to test a consciousness-related interpretation of quantum mechanics
- Development of the second phase of the Global Consciousness Project
- Dramatic changes in how mainstream thought leaders in science are embracing metaphysical ideas once considered far beyond the pale, including the philosophy of idealism (in which consciousness is regarded as fundamental)
This interactive workshop will include a Q&A session with participants.

Dean Radin, M.S., Ph.D., is Chief Scientist at the Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS) and Associated Distinguished Professor at the California Institute of Integral Studies. He earned a B.S. (electrical engineering, magna cum laude with honors in physics) from the University of Amherst and then an M.S. in electrical engineering and a Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Before joining the IONS research staff in 2001, Radin worked at AT&T Bell Labs, Princeton University, University of Edinburgh, and SRI International. He has given over 800 talks and interviews worldwide and is author or coauthor of over 350 scientific and popular articles. He has written two technical books, as well as five popular books translated into 15 foreign languages: The Conscious Universe, Entangled Minds, Supernormal, Real Magic, and his latest, The Science of Magic: How the Mind Weaves the Fabric of Reality.
