Searching for the Christ Within

Saturdays, 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. CT
November 15 – December 6 (4 classes)

JSearching for the Christ within Ravi Ravindra Nov 15 YTesus Christ was one of the very few people in human history who could truly say, "I and the Father are one." However, the whole external cosmos is mirrored inside each one of us, meaning that the Highest Divinity resides within us; we seek to connect with this Divine Energy. During this course, we will explore the teachings of Christ that call us to realize our “oneness with the Father.”

According to the Gospel of Philip, “Christ came not to make us Christians, but to make us Christ.” No serious teaching is easy to follow, and a true Christian disciple practices Christ’s teachings seriously. Christ taught with fire and spirit, calling for a complete freedom from me-my-mine. As he said, “He who is near me is near the fire; he who is far from me is far from the Kingdom.”  (Gospel of Thomas)

Teachings can be understood at different levels. For example, almost all the portraits of St. George show him killing a physical, external dragon. There is a different painting that hangs in a Serbian monastery, however. Here the painter depicts the head of the dragon as the searcher’s own head, which he submits to the Christ, who blesses him.

Many people accept the teachings of Christ, as well as concepts like “born again” and a “virgin birth,” in a literal way. In this course, we will try to explore these teachings at a subtler level. As Meister Eckhart said, “Every Christian is called to be Mary and give birth to the Word.”
